Obituary of Helen Catherine Jamieson
Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Helen was born September 28, 1922, the fourth of nine children, to Agnus and Herb Wilcox in Agnus’ mother’s home in Gull Lake, Sask. Grandma Bostock was the midwife. 3 days later her cousin Evelyn was also born in the same house. She was raised on a farm near Senate, Sask. until grade 8 then moved to Consul, Sask.
Helen moved to Trail, BC to work as a housekeeper in 1947. There she met Earl Jamieson and they were married in Coeur D’Alene, ID in 1948. They lived in Fruitvale, BC until 1950, when they moved back to Choiceland, Sask. to take over the family farm. She worked in the kitchen, when Earl first started in the logging camp and part time in the library for a number of years but primarily was a homemaker. Helen and Earl had 3 children, Gary (1952), Leonard (1953) and Lorraine (1965). The family spent many weekends and vacations camping in northern Saskatchewan. Earl and Helen were active square dancers, who travelled over NE Sask to attend dances at various clubs. They were parent volunteers for the Air Cadets for many years even after their boys finished the program. She was an active member of the Salvation Army Church for years until the church closed in Choiceland. Helen loved to knit and quilt. She knit many sweaters, toque and mitts for many people and loved to give them away.
