Obituary of Joseph Black

Note from the family.

Till we meet again Dad.

(Joe) Our dad, was one of the toughest men we knew!  Really!  And he never complained.

He was looking after mom at home until March 1/24 when he went into St. Paul's, for angioplasty surgery.  A huge decision at the young age of 98 and 1/2.  But, he made his decision and went ahead with the surgery on March 1/24, with some complications.  He was in and out of hospitals over those complications until March 29, when he had had enough of being away from mom and his home and he signed himself out and was brought home.  He struggled with issues at home from his surgery for some time.  But he was home with mom!  When he was brought home from Nipawin hospital and placed in his bed, Dale rolled mom's chair up to his bed, he grabbed mom's hand and said "Hi mom, how are you doing?" and they both smiled, held hands and chatted.

This reminds me of a post on FaceBook I read lately!  'He said, "don't call the doctor, I want to fall asleep peacefully, with your hand in mine." He told her about the past, how they met, their first kiss, they didn't cry, they smiled.  They didn't regret anything, they were grateful.  Then they repeated to each other softly, "I'll love you forever!"  When his wife asked: "have you got everything?" He took her hand and put it in his and said: "I DO NOW!"  And as he gave his wife a soft kiss on the forehead.  He closed his eyes and fell asleep.  Love is really all that matters.  You come into this world with nothing and you leave the same way.'

76 years together on December 28/24!  Beside each other ALWAYS.  Joe and Bernice have only one request of us kids, which was that they would be able to live their final years together in their own home and be together until they pass.  They wanted to be taken to the Garrick Cemetery together when the time came and we will be honoring their wishes, having a service for the two of them together when that time comes.

It is just so very hard to lose our hero, our dad.

Love you forever and always Dad, Rest in Peace
