Obituary of Troy McKenzie
Troy loved listening to music with his mom Leona. He loved dancing. He would wave his arm back and forth and this would make him happy. He loved singing, especially to his favorite song “Snakes crawl at night” and when he listened to his favorite song, it had to be loud! Troy loved his mom.
Whenever Troy phoned his Gran Evelyn, she would always come to check on him, even when she was on her way out of town. His Gran always made time for him, and Troy loved his Gran very much.
His sister Lindsay always made sure to spend time with Troy when she would come over. She would go into his room to cheer him up, and one of the things she would say to make him happy was calling him “handsome man”. They enjoyed spending time with each other.
We believe he knew when his brothers Eugene and Jack were coming to the house because he would be happier and more vocal. And sure enough, his brothers would walk through the door. They enjoyed keeping each other company.
When his dad Eugene Sr. would come home from work, he would always make sure to go into his room to spend time with his son. One of his favorite things to do was to ask Troy for a ‘high five’ and Troy would always do it. This always cheered Troy up and it made his dad happy too.
We knew Troy loved his nieces and nephews. He especially loved when they would come and visit him as this would always cheer him up. Troy loved all his visitors.
Troy attended school at the old Johnny Stewart school and at the Nisto Awasisak Memorial school. His teachers were the late Emily Dorion, who loved Troy so much, and Donna McCauley, who also took care of him.
Troy had such a great sense of humor. One night his cousin Kirk Dorion came over and he wanted to sleep but couldn’t, so he laid in bed with Troy. Well, I guess he was annoyed by Kirk and bit him on the back, as if to say “get off my bed”.
Troy was predeceased by Horace/Marie Greenleaf, Micky McKenzie, Hillard (Marie Louise) McKenzie, and Arthur Dorion.
He is survived by his parents, Eugene Sr. and Leona McKenzie; siblings (and families), Lindsay (Darrel) Settee (Latisha, Miyeava, Mia, Gracelyn); Eugene Jr. (Jamie) McKenzie (Jariel, Jaiz, Jailoh, Jada); and Jack (Dinah) McKenzie (Emery); grandmothers, Evelyn McKenzie, Philomen Chaboyer, Shirley Carriere, and Betsy Constant; grandfathers, Joe (Janet) Fiddler and Leonard (Marie) McKenzie; aunts and uncles, Bill Dorion, Kelly Greenleaf, Ivan (Cindy), Angus (Elaine) Greenleaf, Gwenda Young, Barbara (Jake) Thomas, Hilda (John) Laliberty, Isabel Laliberte, Sean (Diane) McKenzie, Fred (Tanya), Jackie (Blair), Dwayne (Adelaide), Darren (Raquel), Kalvin (Glenda), Jonathan (Mika), Beverly Dawn (Darryn).
