Obituary of Shawna Settee-Hoffman
Shawna Settee–Hoffman was born in March, 1978, in Nipawin, SK., to Adele Settee and Fletcher Fosseneuve. Shawna grew up in Cumberland House, where she resided with her Mom and siblings, Rodney, Jamie, and Dana, she also spent a lot of time with her grandparents Rod & Mariam Settee at the farmhouse, she had a special bond with her grandparents. She met Wesley Hoffman in Nipawin, Sask. In the Spring of 1996. They got married on July 25th, 1997, and together they had three sons, Calyb, Eben, and Ashan, and also a granddaughter Georgia Dawn Marie. During the time they were together, she was a devoted mother and wife, she enjoyed being a stay-at-home Mom raising her boys. Shawna also had three other sons, Seth, Cash, and Xander. She was a proud mother and grandmother to her six sons and granddaughter. Whenever in conversation with Shawna, she would always talk fondly and proudly of them, as her face lit up with her beautiful smile. Always hoping and praying for their health and safety. She loved her children immensely.
Years down the road she moved to Saskatoon to make a fresh start alone, after residing here for many years she would often call Saskatoon her home. She enrolled herself with the First Nation University majoring in Indigenous Social Work. Shawna did very well in her studies and maintained an 80 % average. She chose this area of education with hopes of helping and giving back to the Metis and Indigenous populations. In the last two years of her studies, she was also employed at the Lighthouse, downtown Saskatoon. She enjoyed working with the vulnerable population, offering kindness and empathy to everyone.
Shawna was a very beautiful woman, both physically and personality. She loved to reminisce and laugh about the many fun memories that she had with the many friends she had made during her life. Shawna was very outgoing and friendly when out in public, whether it was through her job at the lighthouse, or seeing familiar faces of family or friends. Shawna had many qualities and beliefs she held close to her heart that made her a beautiful soul: she always stood up for herself and others, when they encountered unfairness and racism. She was always proud to be an Indigenous woman from Cumberland House.
Shawna was predeceased by her mother, Adele Settee; her father, Maurice Fletcher Fosseneuve; her grandparents, Roderick & Mariam Settee; Eliza and Felix Fosseneuve, Lucy Fosseneuve-Sterritt, nephew Draiden Dussion, and cousin Conan Chaboyer.
