Obituary of Bob Taylor

   Robert (Bob) James Taylor was born in March 1944 in Estevan, Saskatchewan, the third of 4 children born to Roy and Jean Taylor. Bob’s earliest years were spent on a farm in the Estevan area after which he moved around with his mother who worked as a cook with road crews. As a teen, he moved with his sister to Hamilton, Ontario and attended school there for 5 years. Bob returned to Estevan and completed high school, living between his Grandma Sarah’s and his mother’s home.

    Following high school, Bob apprenticed with Bourquin Electric. After receiving his Journeyman’s ticket, he moved to Regina and worked with Reliable Electric. In 1966, Bob began his career at SaskPower in Nipawin, having never heard of the town before. He and his then fiancé, Carole Anne had to look up Nipawin on a map—they thought they were moving to the North Pole! Over his career, Bob worked as a Station Electrician and an Operator. He worked long hours and did a lot of calls for a large geographical area.

    Bob met his wife Carole Anne Coleman when he was 18 and she was 16. They dated for 6 years before they married in April 1967 in Estevan. They built a life in Nipawin and were soon blessed with their firstborn daughter, Marla in 1968, followed by Ryan in 1972. Krista completed their family, arriving in 1977.  These years were filled with hard work, improving their home and yard, camping, fishing, playing sports and following their children’s activities.

    Bob was a community champion involved with Lions, the Bowling League and numerous years serving on the Handi-Works Board. He played and supported Senior Hockey and was instrumental in bringing the Montreal Canadians Old Pros to Nipawin.

    Bob and Carole Anne became cottagers when they purchased a cabin at Tobin Lake in 1989. When bob retired in 1996, they made Tobin Lake their permanent home. In 1991, Bob began serving as a village counselor, and was the mayor for decades, serving his last term in 2020. During these years, Bob continued as a small business owner with Village Electric, Tackle Tyme and Toby’s Lakeside Lunch. Bob was thrilled with his grandchildren’s’ arrival, Cole in 2005 and Chase in 2008. The following years were filled with lake living, fishing, traveling, time with extended family and friends, and contributing to his community.

     Bob passed away suddenly on January 15, 2024 at the Nipawin Hospital.

     Bob was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Jean; his brother, Gordon; and his sister, Rose Marie.

     Left to remember him are his loving wife, Carole Anne; daughters Marla and Krista; son, Ryan (Rhonda); grandsons, Cole and Chase; brother Bill (Donna); sister-in-law, Rose; numerous in-laws, countless friends and neighbors.
