Obituary of Reverend Canon Park Buck

    Park Buck was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in May 1957, to Mabel and George Buck. He passed away suddenly on November 20, 2023, at the age of 66 years. Park married Rose Dussion on October 30, 2009. Park and Rose were married for over 14 years. Park was primarily raised at the Pemmican Portage in Cumberland House. He received his education at Pemmican Portage and later continued his studies at Charlebois (Ministik) community school. Park was the fourth oldest of seven siblings. Growing up in a large family, Park shared many memories with his parents, siblings, close family and friends. 

     As a young man, Park grew up in the cultural way of life. He was taught to hunt, fish and trap. This was important to help provide for his family and community. Culture and language were essential to Park as he was fluent in his Cree language. In his teenage years, Park devoted himself to the church, as an altar boy. Through church and faith, Park’s beliefs and love for God grew and dedicated himself to serving the Lord. In his young adult life, Park loved to work. He had various places of employment as he was open to learning new skills. Park worked at the local Sawmill, Northern store, and at the village office as a community janitor. Through his work experience, he then went on to work for the Northern Lights School Division as a custodian. Park worked for many years at the school. This is where he spent much of his time and committed himself to retirement. While working, Park made lasting friendships with other coworkers, administration, students and staff members. After 20 plus years, Park decided to retire due to his declining health. 

     Park’s personal relationship with the Lord was evidenced by the way he was raised to believe in God. His beliefs in prayer, faith and service were instilled in him at a young age. Park loved working for the Lord. He endured the hardships, trials and joy of serving God. Park modelled this by sharing his knowledge with others. He was a devout and faithful minister for the Lord, church and community. His service to the church began when he was appointed a lay reader by the late Reverend Charlie Halkett. On May 11, 1986, under the Anglican Diocese of Saskatchewan, Park was ordained a deacon. A year later, on May 24, 1987, he was ordained a Reverend. Park gained knowledge, guidance and insight from other members of the church. These ministers fulfilled a vital role in the clergy. We remember: the late Reverend Myra Buck, the late Canon Reverend John Fiddler, late Reverend Charlie Fiddler, late Reverend Edmund Bloomfield and the late Reverend Lloyd Young. In recent years, Park mentored and shared teachings with the Reverend Shiela Chaboyer. On March 30, 2008, after serving 21 years as a reverend, he was ordained as Canon Reverend Park Buck. His service to the Lord, church and community did not go unnoticed. This past spring, on April 21, 2023, Park received a long service recognition award from the Anglican Diocese of Saskatchewan. Canon Reverend Park Buck served, the church and community for over 35 years.

     Dad's time with us was special. We know he loved life, and he demonstrated it. He was an active community member when his health was in good standing. Dad liked community and church events. He would attend Sports days, Samual Hearne Days, JB Days, and most enjoyed Canada Day. He enjoyed watching the canoe and foot races, and would participate in event activities. His love for the outdoors was shown by enjoying camp life, fishing, fish derbies, Pine Bluff and Elders camps, and Cultural Week events. Dad had many hobbies and interests such as visiting at family gatherings, driving around, teasing and sharing meals with his nephews, nieces and grandchildren. Dad would always stop in at his sisters, he liked spending time with Vicky and Linda. His favorite holidays were Christmas and Easter as they were significant to his life and faith. Dad loved his wife, Rose. They would travel to gospel jamborees, church meetings, shopping in town, visiting family and going to Pine Bluff and elder's camp. Dad loved all his children, his late son George, sons Kenrick, Joseph, Sherman and daughter Blair (whom he took as his own). He was proud of all his kids and took great care of them. We will remember dad for his humble personality, funny jokes, kind gestures, as well as his firm but fair values.  

     Dad went home to be with the Lord, his parents, siblings, son and those who left before him. He will be missed for his service to the community, church and the people of Cumberland House. We will miss you; we love you and we thank you for being our dad.

     He is survived by his wife: Rose Buck; children: Kenrick Buck, Sherman Buck, Joseph Buck, and Blair (Tyson) Laliberte; stepchildren: William (Vanessa) Dussion, Danny (Mary Jane) Dussion, Leonard (Annette) Dussion, Nadia (Fergus) Campbell; sisters: Vicky Buck and Linda Buck; sisters-in-law: Melinda Buck, Elizabeth Buck, Emily Chaboyer, Shiela (Roy) Settee, Wanda Chaboyer, Audrey Fiddler, Rebecca Settee, Alice Dussion, Mary (Lloyd) Dussion, Sylvia Fluery, and Linda Farmer; brothers-in-law: Perry (Noreen) Chaboyer, Brian Chaboyer, Bert (Lenore) Chaboyer, Patrick (Cynthia) Chaboyer, and Frank Chaboyer; godmother: Christie Crane; all nephews, nieces and grandchildren, too numerous to mention.  

     He is predeceased by his parents: George and Mabel Buck; grandparents: Patrick and Eliza Buck, Gus and Helen Bear; sister: Myra Buck; brothers: William Buck, Joshua Buck, Albert Buck; sons: George Buck and Rene Dussion; sister-in-law: Sarah Buck; nieces: Jessica Buck, Courtey Buck, Nina Buck; father-in-law: Steve Chaboyer; mother-in-law: Agnus Dussion.
