Obituary of Nora Botterill

     Nora was born in April 1925 in Aylesbury, SK. She was the second oldest of 9 children.  Nora attended school in Freestate and finished grade 11 in Nipawin. She married Gordon Botterill on May 5, 1943 in Nipawin. (They were married for 62 years before his passing in 2005.) They lived in Star City for 6 months before Gordon joined the army. Nora stayed with Gordon’s mom and dad in Tisdale and her parents on the farm during that time. When Gordon was stationed in Red Deer, Alberta, Nora travelled there by bus and stayed until he was transferred to Victoria B.C. until the war ended in 1945. On his return, they moved to Aylesbury and then later to Birch Hills and eventually to Nipawin where they started their family in 1947. All four of their children were born in Nipawin—Barrie, Donna, Leonard and Vicki. In 1973, Nora, Gordon, and Vicki moved to B.C. where Nora worked in a lady’s shop and Gordon as a car salesman. They spent 9 years there and returned in 1982.

     Nora enjoyed travelling! Especially places that had a casino! She had many interests. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, bowling, fishing, reading romance novels, and watching soap operas. But most of all, she enjoyed watching the Toronto Blue Jays and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

     Nora’s hands were never idle! She knitted, crocheted and sewed, even making matching dresses for herself, Donna and Vicki. Nora was a great cook and baker. Her family and friends enjoyed her pumpkin, flapper and lemon pies. She was also a member of the Lions Ladies Group and the Elks Royal Purple Lodge in Nipawin for many years. Nora loved being around her family and sharing in family gatherings, holidays and special occasions. She was a sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. 

     Nora’s family is grateful for the care she received from the nurses, caregivers and other staff at Pineview Lodge in Nipawin for the 4 ½ years that she was a resident. Also thank you to Heritage Funeral Home for their support during this difficult time.

     Nora was predeceased by her husband Gordon (2005); her sons, Barrie (2010) and Leonard (2006); her parents, Leslie and Bernice Phillips; her siblings, Vivian McFayden, Ruth Hanson, Wesley Phillips, Ronald Phillips and Donelda Millham.

     Nora leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters: Donna (Grant) Mollberg and Vicki Puetz; her grandchildren: Ryan (Nichole) Mollberg, Garrett (Lindsey) Mollberg, Jason (Renee) Currie, Alicia (Chris) Storey, Ashley Kollewe, Dustin (Sarah) Botterill; 13 great grandchildren; her sisters, Mavis Hornseth and Joan Johanson; her brother Larry (Sharlene) Phillips; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

      As we move forward in life, remember the good times and special moments, tuck these memories in your heart and recall them with love in the days and years ahead.
