Obituary of Erich Krone
Please share a memory of Erich to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Erich Herman Krone, age 88, of Nipawin Saskatchewan passed away peacefully at Nipawin Pineview Lodge on Saturday, February 12, surrounded by his immediate family members.
Eric was born on the family farm in the Little Bridge District, west of Pontrilas Saskatchewan in May 1933 to Bernhard and Margaretha Krone. He was baptized at the Spooner Lutheran Church on September 17, 1933 by Pastor Koehler.
Eric attended school at Little Bridge until he completed Grade Eight. He then started farming with his brother Ben. They were still farming with horses at that time. When not at work with Ben, he worked with his dad in Nipawin learning the art of masonry as his dad was a master mason. In the meanwhile, Ben was able to afford a tractor and used it more than just the horses. It was then that Eric left the farm to work in B.C. First was masonry, then logging and finally working at the post office. While working there his dad called him to come back home and take over the farm.
It was at Little Bridge Eric met the love of his life, Shirley Uhrich. They were married at Nipawin Zion Lutheran Church on July 9, 1955. They were blessed with their son Kenneth (Ken) Krone on May30, 1957.
Eric had several occupations over his lifetime including mechanic, farmer, mason, post office, shipping clerk, fertilizer specialist, maintenance/boiler man, funeral director and locksmith. After retiring from the Nipawin High School, Eric and Shirley wintered in Mesa, Arizona. They made many friends and memories over the years until age and health issues forced them to stop traveling out of country. Eric gave his time and talent willingly to help family, friends and neighbours. There wasn’t anything Eric couldn’t fix and was self-taught for many of these things.
Eric will be greatly missed by his wife, Shirley; his son Ken (Marlene); grandchildren Erich (Lindsay Hretsina) Krone, Erica (Aaron) Glantz; great-grandchildren Hannah and Aviel Glantz; sister-in-law Marian Krone, Shirley’s sister Arlene (Ray) Deeg; her brother Bill and sister-in-law Clarice Uhrich; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Bernhard and Margaretha Krone; his sisters and brothers: Ann, Ben, Helena, Trudy, Margaret, Otto, Rose, Edith, Herman and Shirley’s brothers Ervin and Bud.
Later in life Eric had a running joke that always made him laugh, “Wie geth’s,” (German for How are you?) you would ask. He would respond “To heck with the gate. Let’s jump the fence and have a drink.”
So let us jump the fence and celebrate his life
and be happy for him as he would want us to do.
