Obituary of Don Martens

Donald Martens passed away unexpectedly on July 25, 2021. Don Martens was born in Swan Plain, Saskatchewan in December 1934. When he was young his family moved to a farm a few miles outside of Carrot River, Saskatchewan and later moved into town. Don started working at age 14 after finishing grade 9 in Carrot River. He worked at Valley Service for many years, then worked for the North East School Division
as a bus driver/mechanic.
Don was a social person who enjoyed going out for coffee with friends and family. He was proud of his (step) grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He spent a lot of time in his older years teaching his grandchildren to drive the quad, garden tractor, and ride-on mower. In the last few years, he could often be found puttering around the yard with his dog, Muffin, nearby.
Don is survived by his wife, Connie; his
stepchildren: Shane (Sheri) Meston, and Candice (Richard) Petersen; his step-grandchildren: Andrew Meston, Calder Petersen, Rhesa Petersen, and Samuel Petersen; his sisters: Gladys (Bob) Ralph and Verna Henry; his half sister, Isabelle Neufeld; his brother-in-law, Jim Doherty; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don is predeceased by: his first wife, Joyce; his parents, Wilhelm (Bill) and Maria (Mary); his sisters: Doris Lupton, Caroline Doherty, Jeanette Desiatnyk, and Edith Wall; his half-brothers: Edward Martens and Norman Martens; and his nephews: Kevin Ralph and Jim Lupton.
