Obituary of Lorraine Matthews

Lorraine, wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, and aunt passed away peacefully on February 24, 2021, at the age of 59, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Lorraine will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Vaden Matthews of 41 years, her children Robbie (Rebecca) and Jennifer (Johnny), her grandchildren Ashlea, Chaz, Amy, Ariel, Owen, and Oliver, her brothers Wilson, Christopher, Rodger, and David, her sisters Jean, Ruth, Margaret, Verna, and Vera, her mother Mary-Jane, her large extended family and friends. We will hold her loving smile in our memories forever. Lorraine was predeceased by her father, Jesse Hopkins. Lorraine was born in Newfoundland to Jesse and Mary-Jane Hopkins and was one of 10 children. She was raised in Newfoundland. She moved from there and experienced different places throughout Canada with the love of her life and later her two children. For a significant part of her life, she lived in Leaf Rapids, raising her children, pursuing her ambitions, building beautiful relationships with close friends, and enjoying the family cabin. She later moved to Saskatchewan and settled there after her children had grown. Lorraine had extraordinary mathematical skills and could calculate numbers in her head and give the answer before anyone else could get a chance. She graduated high school in Newfoundland grade 11 with honours, but that wasn't enough. Her ambition led her to a grade 12 graduation with advanced accounting also with honours. Lorraine's pet peeve was being told no student gets 100%, so she set out to prove them wrong and got 100% over and over. She was a strong, determined, compassionate woman. Lorraine had a long career in accounting, running her own newspaper business (The Northern Star), a Camera Repair Specialist and Lab Technician, and many other pursuits, but the most important role that she put first was her family. Lorraine devoted her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She dedicated the last years of her life to her grandchildren and watching them grow. Lorraine also had a huge heart for her extended family and friends. She enjoyed many a get-together with friends through the years. Lorraine had a sweet soft heart and loved to joke around and have a laugh. Lorraine enjoyed making homemade bread, quad rides, sewing, crafts, and card games. You were lucky if you could win a game of Canasta against her. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
