Obituary of Phyllis Elizabeth Petersen

Please share a memory of Phyllis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Phyllis Elizabeth Moline arrived October 23, 1932 in Canwood, Saskatchewan into a family where love has no boundaries. The 5th of ten children. Toys were not in abundance, so entertainment came from what she had: siblings, pets, and farm animals. At age 5 and 10 months it was off to school, where there were nice straight lines for the raising of the Union Jack Flag, the Lord's Prayer, "Oh Canada", and "God save the Queen". During her High school years, she worked at the Co-op store and the Post Office. After school, Phyllis moved to Saskatoon in September and worked for a Jewish family, H.D. Pinder. After a month or so, she returned to Canwood to do housework and odd jobs. In February, she went to North Battleford by train to work at the Mental Hospital; stayed until August, then went to Teachers' College. The next summer, she worked at the Prince Albert Sanatorium for about six weeks. Teaching took her to various communities. She taught for two years in Moonbeam, followed by two years at Bible school in Saskatoon. When finances ran low, she taught in Carrot River for a year where she met Darrel who would be her future husband, then returned to Bible school. She dreamed of being a missionary to Africa, but never pursued that dream. After Bible school, she taught at Parkside and Acadia Valley. In the summer of 1963, she married Darrel Petersen. She taught in Crooked River and Leacross until family arrived in 1966. Phyllis served as a homemaker, bookkeeper for Darrel's businesses, a hockey mom, referee co-ordinator, Hawks ticket sales, worked and served in the Sunday school at church and prayed for many people. She took great joy in her family: her 3 sons, her 3 daughters (in law) which she was more than thrilled with, and 10 grandchildren which she supported beyond measure. Phyllis is predeceased by: her husband Darrel, mother Emma, father Billie, two brothers Bennie and Fred, and two sisters Vangie and Audrey. Phyllis leaves behind: her brothers Leo, Willie, and Melvin; her sisters Lilleth and Eleanor; three sons and families David (Shannon), Cal, Mickey and Tanisha; Richard (Candice), Calder, Rhesa and Samuel; and Rodney (Angela), Spencer, Jerem, Janae, and Aysia.
