Miriam was born on Sept 10th, 1922 at Warman SK. She was the eldest daughter of Pastor Charlie Dirks and Mrs. Katrina Dirks. Her father`s ministry took the family to several communities during her childhood. The family lived at Waldheim, Hague, Ridgedale and finally Nipawin where the family settled.
Miriam graduated from High School in Ridgedale and went on to become a teacher. She lived in the era of the one room country school house and spent a number of years in her early career teaching multiple grades in these small rural schools. It was there, at Sandwell School, she met Alfred Taylor who was on the school board. They were married on August 8th, 1945 in Prince Albert. Together, Merti and Alf started a family. Tom was born on April 23rd, 1948. Kathy followed being born on August 20th, 1951.
Miriam continued her Teaching career in Nipawin while raising her family. Her positive energy and love of family created a wonderful childhood for Tom and Kathy. She was also an active member of the United Church and the Rebekah Lodge.
Alfred and Miriam enjoyed their retirement years with extensive travel. They purchased a motor home and hit the road for places warm and balmy. They enjoyed their family and were delighted to share their lives with grandchildren Crystal and Lisa.
``Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me`` Mathew 25:40 Miriam`s empathy and love for small children was her greatest gift to this world.
