Obituary of Raymond Gordon Johnson

Ray Johnson, aged 87, peacefully passed away at the Arborfield Care Home on May 6, 2019.

Ray was born on August 16, 1931 on the farm west of Codette. He farmed in the Grassy Run area from the early 1950’s to late 1960’s. He married Darlene Lambsdown on December 10, 1966 and they raised 4 children; Brian, Brenda, Christopher and Gordon.

Ray continued farming and working at Sandy Stevenson’s Saw Mill in the winter. In the late 1960’s, he purchased land east of Carrot River in the Cracking River District. In the spring of 1969, the family moved to the Cracking River District. Ray farmed the land himself for a number of years, then rented it out. Eventually dad farmed the land again with the help of Chris and Gordon. Mom and dad continue living on the farm until moving into Carrot River in 2007.

He enjoyed playing cribbage, rummy, scrabble, whist and bingo. He also curled for a couple years with the senior curlers. His passion was farming and gardening.

Ray was predeceased by his parents, George and Maggie Johnson, three brothers; Earl Dahl, Carl Dahl, and Leslie Johnson, his brother-in-law; Bill Mickelson and Roland Comeault, his sisters-in-law; Lillian Johnson and Charlotte Dahl.

He is survived by his wife Darlene (52 years), his children; Brian (Marilyn), Brenda, Christopher and Gordon. Grandchildren; Kaila, Karissa, and Emma Johnson, Jonathon, Danielle and Michael Carroll, Brandon and Erik Johnson, Aleda Head. Two sisters: Louise (Ervin) Shannon and Yelva Mickleson. Two sisters-in-law; Helen Dahl and Linda Adams, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
